Get ready to vote

No voting station in West Van this election

Pique, Nov. 3, 2011

The Resort Municipality will be hosting two advance polls, in addition to the general election on Nov. 19. As well, for the first time, the resort will be offering mail-in ballots to residents and second homeowners that cannot otherwise take part in advance voting opportunities or the general election.

The first advance voting opportunity is Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Whistler Municipal Hall.

The second advance voting opportunity is Saturday, Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Whistler Municipal Hall.

The general voting day is Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Whistler Conference Centre.

There is no polling station in West Vancouver, as hosted by the municipality in past years. Instead, second homeowners and residents that can't attend to vote in person can apply for a mail-in ballot.

You can download an application for a mail-in ballot at www.whistler.ca, or pick up a paper copy from municipal hall. The forms will be available until 4 p.m. on Nov. 17. The ballots must be returned to municipal hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 or to the Whistler Conference Centre by 8 p.m. on voting day when the polls closed.

Who can vote?

To qualify, you must be 18, a Canadian citizen, a resident of B.C. for at least six months prior to voting day, be a resident of the RMOW or a registered owner of a real property in the municipality for at least 30 days prior to the election.

Property owners whose properties are registered under a corporation are not entitled to vote. In the case where there are multiple owners on a title - such as a time-share - only one of the owners (with the permission of the majority of other owners) is entitled to vote.
