The rain held off for the special edition of the G.K. Ripper on Oct. 9 in Squamish, the 10th year since the first race and the end of the competition.

The race is a team event, with one mountain biker racing up the road from Quest University to the Diamond Head parking lot, a distance of about 12 km with 1,000 metres of elevation gain. The other rider descends back to the start via the 19th Hole, P'Nuts and Psuedo Tsuga.

The top team overall and first in the male category was Neal Kindree and Kyle Ritchie, with Kindree completing the climb in 36:51 and Ritchie the descent in 12:53.1 for a total time of 49:44.7.

In fact, Kindree's uphill time was so fast that nobody came within four minutes - locking up the title before the downhill even started.

In second place were Oliver Gendron and Yanik Gaudette in 53:40.6. They were followed by Christ Christie and Mike Jones in 56:23.4.

In the women's category, the top team was Lauren Hughes and Miranda Miller, with a combined time of 1:13:09.0. Genevieve Fawcett and Sheila Kassel were second in 1:14:40. They were followed by Grace McLeod and Courtenay Wittenburg in 1:19:17.

The top junior team was Quinn Moberg and Kip Shortreed in 56:08.4, placing third overall for all the teams taking part. They were followed by Felix Zimmerman and Lutz Rehr in 1:05:45.6, and the Whistler team of Mahon Lamont and Jack Iles in 1:11:21.0.

In the mixed category, Jim Neudork and Emily Slaco were first in 1:09:55.1, followed by Tobin McCallum and Mary-Ann Taylor in 1:10:25.8 and Kaz Collins and Greg Grant in 1:14:11.2.

Two riders also did the race solo. Joe Schwartz was a speedy 1:02:29.4. He was followed by Phil Cairns in 1:13:44.5.

That doesn't quite wrap up the Squamish bike race season, with the Lunar Enduro taking place this weekend. Visit www.sorca.com for details.
