Summertime ski season ends Whistler's blazing late July temperatures led to a somewhat premature close to glacier skiing and snowboarding on Blackcomb Mountain, after a very successful summer season. Long days of sunshine required Blackcomb to close the Horstman Glacier to the general public on July 29, although a series of ski and snowboard camps previously booked will continue through the weekend. The glacier was scheduled to be open until Aug. 3, giving the mountain one of the longest continuous ski seasons in the entire world. Alpine sightseeing will continue daily until Sept. 13, with the nightly twilight hiking in the Rendezvous area still offered from 5 to 8 p.m. until Sept. 8. The mountain will then be open on weekends only until Oct. 11, with an anticipated opening date of Nov. 24 for the next skiing and boarding season.
