Golfers raise money for skiers

The 24th Annual Bob Parsons Memorial Golf Tournament,

The 24 th Annual Bob Parsons Memorial Golf Tournament, held on May 8 at Big Sky Golf and Country Club, was a huge success, even with weather conditions that varied between a blistering sun and driving wind and rain.

It was like a day on the mountain for the golfers who came out to support this fundraiser for the Bob Parsons Memorial Downhill races, a 25-year-old event that introduces skiers age 13 and 14 to speed events.

The winning team included Nigel Woods, Matt Woods, Peter Young and Kate Webster. Nigel helped his team along with a rare hole in one shot. Almost 20 teams took part this year.

In addition to supporting the Bob Parsons Memorial Downhill, a portion of the money will go to provide bursaries for young racers. This year’s recipients are Stan Rey from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and Jessie Carmichael from the Red Mountain Racers. Both athletes just completed their first year racing at the FIS level.

The organizers would like to thank their hole sponsors and the businesses that donated prizes to the event: The Elephant & Castle, Coastal Mountain Excavations, Alcan-B.C., Dr. Robert LD Adams Inc., Bill and Pauline McNeney, Descente Golf, Whistler-Blackcomb, Rossignol, Rimrock Café, Whistler’s Best Promotions, Lefron Agencies, Coast Mountain Photography, Husky Oil, Whistler Jet Boat, Whistler River Adventures, Martin and Peacock Wine Agencies and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
