There is still time to register for The 10 th Annual Pemberton Health Care Foundations "Golf for Health". Held Friday, July 8, the tournament raises money to fund medical equipment acquisitions for the Pemberton Health Centre. The Pemberton Valley Golf and Country Club not only hosts, but has also directly benefited from the event.
Brian Young, general manager for the PVGCC, explains how one of the pieces of equipment the foundation funding aided in blood cot prevention.
"That piece of equipment saved one of our founding members who had a stroke on the course," explained Young.
The golf club co-sponsors the event with the North Shore Credit Union and Pemberton Valley Supermarket. Special guests for the event include MLA Joan McIntyre, MP Chuck Strahl and Mayor Elinor Warner.
But theres another special guest many members and players would also like to see. The Health Care Foundations chair, Bruce MacFayden, is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for stomach cancer. When he was diagnosed with the disease in March, organizers decided this years tournament should be held in appreciation of the years of hard work MacFayden has contributed to the foundation.
"Bruce MacFayden is a great man," stated Young. "Hes done a lot for this town and for the foundation. Were hoping hell be able to make it to the awards dinner."
During the past decade, Golf for Health has raised more than $180,000.Registration fees are $125 per player. Non-golfers can participate in the dinner and silent auction for $35. Tickets are available through the sponsoring organizations or through the PVGCC website: www.pembertongolf.com.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at three levels, varying in price from $150 to $1,000. To discuss the sponsorship packages, contact Young at 604-894-5122 ext 6 or Mark Blundell at 604-905-9417.
