The annual Kokanee Valley Race Series kicked off its 10-race season last Thursday, Dec. 15, with a giant slalom event on Blackcomb’s Springboard.

It was sunny, warm at -1 Celsius, and the conditions were fast for the field of 52 skiers and telemarkers that took part in the event.

The draw prize for the Atomic skis was won by Jackie Jackson.

The next event will be another GS on Blackcomb on Jan. 12, which will be followed by awards and video playback at the Crab Shack.

All skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders are invited to take part. The cost is $20 per race or $150 for the entire series, and all participants will be eligible to win draw prizes including a pair of Atomic skis. You can register in advance at any Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations or Ski School Sales desk, or on the morning of the event at the Rendezvous on Blackcomb until 9:45 a.m.
