Green athlete of the year

For the second consecutive year, Victoria’s Roland Green was named the 2002 Canadian athlete of the year at the 30 th annual Canadian Sport Award dinner in Toronto.

For the second consecutive year, Victoria’s Roland Green was named the 2002 Canadian athlete of the year at the 30 th annual Canadian Sport Award dinner in Toronto.

Among his accomplishments in 2002, Green won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England and went on to defend his title at the World Mountain Bike Championships. He also won and placed in numerous national and international races, and devoted free time to youth programs and the development of the sport.

Female athlete of the year honours again went to speed skater Catriona Le May Doan, a double Olympic gold medallist who has numerous records to her credit.

Olympic gold medal figure skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier won the pair award.
