The preload for the road and new bridge over Fitzsimmons Creek to the Whistler Kampground lands, now owned by Greenside Properties, has been finished and the company is now waiting for the camping season to end to begin site servicing of its 52 lots. David Ehrhardt said his company will likely begin work on the new bridge, the site servicing and the sewage pump station after the Labour Day weekend. "We’ve also got a little bit of the training wall to complete, where there are camper hookups now, but that will only take about five days," he said Tuesday. The underground work and pump station will be completed before winter, although the bridge may not be finished until the spring. Greenside is developing the 5,000-6,000 square foot lots, 11 of which will have the employee covenant on them, and plans to begin marketing them this fall. Ehrhardt says a sales office will be on site in the fall and he hopes to get a show home there as well. Initial estimates had the lots priced at about $70,000. Pre-fabricated homes will also be offered. Ehrhardt was non-committal on whether a private school originally included in the project will go ahead. "That’s difficult for me to answer. We have a group prepared to go ahead with the school but we’ve heard from a number of sources that employee housing might be preferable." The municipality is reviewing the school now. Greenside had hoped to begin the housing and school project years ago but legal challenges by former land owner Ruth Buzzard delayed transfer of ownership. When it became clear the municipality would not have an alternative campground ready this year Greenside agreed to run the existing campground for the duration of the summer. "Hopefully we’ve been able to do our good deed for the community by keeping the campground open," Ehrhardt said.
