After a month-long investigation seven Whistler RCMP officers busted a grow-op in Alpine Meadows this week.
Two locals were arrested separately at the residence in the 8100 block of Alpine Drive.
"We conducted a long investigation which eventually gave us enough information to have grounds for a warrant," said RCMP Cst. Devon Jones.
A total of 123 marijuana plants were seized as well as just over one kilogram of dried marijuana.
Taking down a grow-op can be risky, said Jones. Officers checked for booby traps, now common problems in grow-ops and called B.C. Hydro as soon as they confirmed the home was empty.
"Sometimes it is quite dangerous what these people get going with their hydro….We called Hydro as soon as the house was clear to help us out and make sure it was safe," said Jones.
Police also understood there was possibly a weapon. One was recovered, said Jones, but it was dismantled and not associated with the grow-op.
While police were at the home the 37-year-old male resident arrived and was arrested. He was charged with production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and also driving while prohibited both under the Criminal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act. The van the suspect was driving was also not insured. It was impounded for 30 days.
Shortly after, an officer spotted the second male resident as he walked past the house in an effort to find out what was going on. The 23-year-old was also arrested and charged with production of a controlled substance.
Both were released and are to appear in court in North Vancouver at a later date.
