Guay just misses podium at Bormio

The Canadian Alpine Ski Team doesn't have a medal so far this season, but after Thursday's downhill race in Bormio, Italy they now have three results in the top four. The latest fourth was by Erik Guay, who finished just .22 seconds back of Austria's Klaus Kroell. Dider Defago and Patrick Kueng of Switzerland were first and second."It's frustrating to be in fourth, but all-in-all I had a pretty solid run," said Guay. "It's a really, really challenging downhill this year. I feel like I could have taken some chances in different areas."So far this season Jan Hudec and Whistler's Robbie Dixon have placed fourth at World Cup races, and consistency is paying off. Guay sits 21st in the standings this year, and will head into 2012 ranked 12th in downhill and 10th in super G. Hudec is 23rd, and ranked 18th in downhill and eighth in super G. Dixon is 30th in downhill and 15th in super G.Hudec placed 23rd at Bormio, while Benjamin Thomsen finished just outside the points in 32nd. Louis-Pierre Helie, making his injury comeback, was 47th. Robbie Dixon was strong in training, but missed a gate on Thursday. In Lienz, Austria, the women's technical team had a pair of races, a giant slalom on Wednesday and slalom on Thursday.The GS didn't go well, with none of the Canadian athletes qualifying for a second run. Marie-Michele Gagnon came closest in 32nd.The slalom went much better, with Gagnon placing 14th overall and Erin Mielzynski in 22nd.The racing continued at Zagreb, Croatia on Jan. 3 with a women's slalom. Anna Goodman was 23rd, the only Canadian to make the top 30.
