Gymnastics club in the medals

Clean up at Vancouver competition

The Whistler Gymnastics Club’s competitive teams took part in the Zone 5 championships at Phoenix Gymnastics Club in Vancouver this past weekend, coming home with medals and personal bests in almost every category.

In the Beginner Provincial Argo group, Maye Akama just missed the all around medals, finishing fourth overall with fourth place finishes on bars and floor, and eighth on beam and vault out of 18 athletes.

Cate Sproule was fifth all around with a silver medal on the floor, a sixth on beam, and a seventh on vault and bars.

Hannah Raffler’s best result was a bronze on the beam, two sixths on vault and floor and an eighth on bars.

Averi Willis was fifth on bars, seventh on vault and floor and 11 th on the beam.

Kristina Bell was fifth on beam, ninth on bars, 10 th on floor and 11 th on vault.

Jenya Nordin also had a solid event, finishing 11 th on floor and 12 th on vault.

Sonya d’Artois was the top Provincial Level 1 Novice, finishing second on vault and floor and third on bars and beam.

Lenka Prochazka won the all around gold in the Provincial Level 1 Tyro group after placing first on vault, second on beam, and third on bars and floor.

Jasmin Budge was fifth in the same category, finishing fourth on vault, beam and floor, and fifth on bars.

In Provincial Tyro, Flight 3, Victoria Jazic finished fifth all around, after winning gold in bars and beam and placing fifth in vault and ninth on floor.

Tycee Fairweather was sixth all around, finishing fourth in bars, sixth on vault, seventh on beam and eighth on floor.

Meg Halliwell was eighth, after placing eighth on vault, beam and floor, and sixth on bars.

Whistler Gymnastics’ Interclub program also competed on Sunday. Interclub is a competitive recreational program where athletes are awarded medals and certificates for their performance. Athletes taking part were Sara Braidwood, Rachel Warner, Anita Facundo, Alysia Longstaff and Erin Davidson.
