Gymnasts medal in final meet of year

The Whistler Gymnastics Club finished their competitive season on a high note, returning from the Ogopogo 2004 gymnastics meet in Kelowna last weekend with medals and personal best performances.

Some of the best results belonged to the Level 1 Tyro team, where all of the athletes netted at least one top-10 result and finished in the top-half of the competitors. Alexandra Arcalean finished 10 th on vault, sixth on bars, fifth on beam and third on floor out of almost 40 competitors to win the third place all-around medal.

Ashlen Coombs was fourth on the vault and beam, sixth on the floor and 16 th on the bars to finish seventh all-around.

Annik Tetreault won a gold medal on the vault, a bronze on the bars and was eighth and 14 th respectively on the beam and floor to finish 11 th all-around – still less than a point behind Arcalean.

Sonja D’Artois finished 10 th on the floor, 13 th on the vault, 15 th on the beam and 22 nd on the bars; Bianca Duval was fifth on the floor, 19 th on vault, 23 rd on beam and 24 th on bars, and Shannon MacDonald was fifth on the bars, 18 th on the floor, 20 th on the vault and 24 th on the beam.

In her first competition at the Level 2 Argo category, competing against girls who are older and more experienced, Rebecca Flynn finished seventh on the bars, 12 th on floor, and 13 th on the beam and vault.

Kristi Poole-Adler, competing as a Level 2 Novice, won a gold medal on the beam, and finished eighth on the bars. She didn’t compete in either the vault or floor because of an injury, but was on pace for a strong all-around finish.

Frances Moody, in her first year as a Level 3 Tyro, won a silver medal on the vault, was fourth on the bars and fifth on both the beam and floor.

Nike Sadler, in her first year as a Level 3 Novice, was fifth on the floor, sixth on the vault, eighth on the beam and 10 th on the bars.

The club wraps up its spring program on Friday, June 11, but is taking registration for a pair of summer camps and the fall program. Contact the club at 902-FLIP (3547) for more information.
