Gymnasts qualify for provincials

The Whistler Gymnastics Club headed to Pheonix Gymnastics in Vancouver this past weekend for the Zone 5 qualifier event, which determined what gymnasts would go on to the provincials in Kamloops.

The Whistler Gymnastics Club headed to Pheonix Gymnastics in Vancouver this past weekend for the Zone 5 qualifier event, which determined what gymnasts would go on to the provincials in Kamloops.

In Level 1 Argo, Cambria Willis finished second all around, and was first on beam, second on floor, third on bars and eighth on vault. Jessie Budge was third all around, second on bars and beam, ninth on vault and 10 th on floor. Carly Mann was fifth all around, second on vault, fourth on bars, eighth on floor and ninth on beam. Ellie Krasny was seventh all around, placing fourth on beam, fifth on bars, sixth on vault and seventh on the floor. Jessica Girard was eighth all around, placing fourth on floor, sixth on bars, seventh on vault and 11 th on floor. Charlotte Mahoney was ninth, placing third on beam, ninth of floor and vault, and 11 th on beam.

In Level 1 Tyro, Cate Sproule was first all around, placing second on bars, beam and floor and third on the vault. Katrina Underhill was third all around with gold medals on vault and beam, a bronze on the bars and a sixth place finish on the floor.

In Level 2 Argo, Keeley Wentzel was third all around, winning a silver on vault, bronze medals on beam and floor, and placing fourth on vault.

In Level 2 Tyro, Hannah Raffler just missed the provincials finishing seventh all around, with a third on vault, seventh place finish on bars and ninth place finish on the floor. Maye Akama was eighth all around, placing fifth on bars and sixth on floor. Jenya Vincent-Nordin was 12 th all around with a ninth place finish on the vault.

Two girls were also competing in the Level 2 Tyro category for the first time. Alex Shuker placed ninth all around, with a fifth on bars, seventh on bars and ninth place finishes on vault and beam. Avery Willis was 11 th all around, with a ninth place finish on the beam, and Ali Marriott was 13 th all around with a an eighth on the vault and a 10 th place finish on bars.

In Level 2 Novice, Lenka Prochazka was third all around, placing third on bars, fourth on vault, fifth on floor and sixth on beam. Meg Halliwell just missed the cut in seventh all around, with a sixth place finish on bars, seventh place finishes on vault and floor, and an eighth place finish on the beam. Jasmin Budge was eighth all around, with a bronze on the bars, fourth place finish on the floor, and a ninth on the vault and 10 th on beam. Tyece Fairweather was 11 th all around, with a seventh place finish on the beam, an eighth on bars, a ninth on vault and a 10 th on the floor.

In Level 2 Open, Sonya D’Artois was second all around.

Athletes qualifying to represent Zone 5 at the provincial championships are Lenka Prochazka, Keeley Wentzel, Sonja D’Artois and Nicola Halliwell. Halliwell was the provincial champion in her age group last year, but is competing in the more difficult Level 3 Open category.

It was also the first judged contest for Whistler’s KIP athletes, who got a chance to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals on floor, bars, beam and vault.

Martina Gershon won gold on vault and floor and silver medals on bars and beam.

Meghan Marof won gold medals on vault, bars and floor and a silver medal on the beam.

Kalea MacCrank-Ranger won silver medals on vault, beam and floor and a bronze on bars.

Jamie Gormley earned silver medals on vault and floor and bronze medals on bars and beam.

Iyla Vincent-Nordin won gold on floor, silver on vault and beam and bronze on bars.

Niki Marriott won silver on vault and floor and bronze on bars and beam.

Caitlin MacConnachie won silver on vault, bars and beam, and bronze on floor.

Charlie Jarratt won silver on vault, and bronze on bars, beam and floor.

Caleigh Lamont won gold on bars and beam, and silver on vault and floor.

Hannah Peatfield won Silver on all events.

Kayley Ogilvie-Turner won silver on vault and floor and bronze on bars and beam.
