If you spot a group of undead loitering around the Olympic rings in the village on Tuesday night, don't panic.

It's not the apocalypse, just a harmless zombie walk.

"It's kind of like a flash mob," explains DJ Phroh from Solartribe, a collective of DJs that is organizing the walk along with their annual Monster Massive 8 party on Oct. 30. "It's the same kind of thing, but it's for Halloween and everyone comes as a zombie. We do a walk through the village like a big posse of zombies. It's a pretty popular thing in Vancouver, so we want to try to bring it to Whistler."

Last year, they only drew about 20 brain-hungry creatures, but for the 2012 installation they're hoping to attract at least 100. All zombies are instructed to meet at Olympic Plaza at 8:30 p.m. before the crew drags their animated corpses to Tommy Africa's for the DJ event, taking photos and shooting video along the way.

With Monster Massive 8 heading into its eighth year, DJ Phroh says it's sure to sell out. In total, 10 DJs will take turns spinning throughout the night — and, possibly, well into the morning, he hints.

Tickets are $25 at Hempire. Costumes aren't mandatory, but you'll look like a stick in the mud without one. "We've never had a year where more than two people in the club weren't dressed up," DJ Phroh said. "You'll kind of feel like a dork without your costume."

In the mood for something a spookier? Check out the Hawthorne Asylum, a.k.a. the Whistler Haunted House, from Oct. 28th until 30th. Wander through the "dark abandoned and haunted old prison hospital for the mentally insane," organizers offer. "The souls and ghosts of evil tormented patients still lurk in the shadows."

Slightly less evil creatures will be on duty from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. for families — or the easily spooked. But all bets are off from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. when visitors will get the "full scare." Whistler residents behind the event are currently looking for volunteers to help create props, set up and tear down the ghoulish set. Entry is by donation with a portion of the proceeds going to Whistler Community Services. Hit up the house at 3145 Hawthorne Place in Brio. For more information visit them on Facebook at the Whistler Haunted House or contact whistlerhauntedhouse@gmail.com.

If you need to shake off the experience, there are a slew of parties around town to hit up. Brandy's at the The Keg is hosting its "All Treat, No Trick!" event Oct. 31 with DJ Tim Livingdead spinning tracks. There will also be prizes for the best costumes. The fun starts at 9 p.m.

Over at Maxx Fish on halloween night they're having Hollywood Halloween, encouraging people to dress up as their favourite character from tinsel town. There will also be prizes for the best costume.

The Librarian will be DJing "unique beats with a ghouly twist" at the Mix by Ric's beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday. "It's a great place to start your evening or finish it," they promise.

Local singer-songwriter Jon Shrier will provide the soundtrack to Halloween at The Mallard. He promises to be dressed up on Oct. 31 and he's encouraging others to do the same. "Best dressed gets a prize from me!" he says.
