Halloween returns to Tapley’s Farm

Candy donations needed; contest for best costume added this year

For 19 years Tapley’s Farm has been the place for ghosts and goblins on Halloween night. This year costumed kids could also win cash.

Tapley’s Farm resident Paul Fournier has secured six $100 donations from Whistler businesses to offer as prizes for best costumes. Home Hardware, Whistler Photo Source, Marketplace Pharmasave, Marketplace IGA, Black’s Dining and Earl’s have each contributed $100 prizes.

"The judging is going to be based on crowd appreciation," Fournier said. "With the loudest cheers determining the winners."

The costume judging will take place at 6344 Easy Street, six doors down from where the lower field at Myrtle Philip school where the fireworks display will be put on by Nesters Market. Costume judging will take place immediately following the fireworks.

Homeowners in Tapley’s Farm annually participate in a contest for the best decorated house on Halloween. Fournier wanted to offer a contest to kids.

"The point is to get kids interested in costumes," Fournier said.

Tapley’s Farm has traditionally been the place to go in Whistler for trick or treating. The streets are closed from dusk until 7:30 p.m. to make it safe for Whistler’s kids, young and old alike.

Again this Halloween there will be a free bus leaving from Marketplace and shuttling people down to Tapley’s Farm, where household will shell out candy to more than 600 children.

Drop off candy donations at Myrtle Philip School, Spring Creek School, Whistler and Spring Creek Children’s Centres, the Teddy Bear Daycare and 6448 Toad Hollow in Tapley’s. The candy donations will be accepted until Saturday, Oct. 29.

And don’t forget the fireworks display put on by Nesters at the lower field behind Myrtle Philip School after the trick or treating.
