Brian Kines is the new senior administrator for the Sea to Sky Community Health Council. Kines’ appointment was announced by Jim Miller, chair of the health council. Kines takes over from Bill Crysler, who served as interim administrator of the Whistler Health Care Centre for the past year. "Brian comes to Sea to Sky with over 16 years of health care administration experience at the CEO level," Miller said in a release. "He also has a proven track record in managing care and in managing multi-site organizations with and throughout the health sector. His visionary leadership abilities and expert administrative skills will be instrumental in implementing the council’s community health plan." The Sea to Sky Community Health Council is part of the provincial government’s efforts to regionalize health care through its Closer to Home initiative. Under the previous structure each hospital and medical centre in the Sea to Sky Corridor had a board of directors and an administrator. The Closer to Home plan dissolves these independent hospital boards and replaces them with community health councils. Kines comes to Whistler from the North Okanagan, where he was very active in community health planning and health reform in his position as executive director/health services administrator for the Armstrong/Enderby and Spallumchean Community Health Council. That health council was the third community health council designated in the province. The Sea to Sky Community Health Council oversees health centres and services from Squamish to Pemberton.
