Whistlerites will have their first chance tomorrow night to meet the candidates vying for a seat on council in this month's byelection.

Hosted by Pique Newsmagazine, the Whistler Question and the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association, the meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Whistler Secondary School, and will be held in a 'speed-dating' format, with members of the public getting to sit down face-to-face with each of the candidates.

In alphabetical order, the candidates are: Steve Andrews, Kalee Eder, Cathy Jewett, Janice Lloyd, Alon Rimon, Kate Roddick and Dawn Titus.

The seven council hopefuls are campaigning for the vacant seat of late Councillor Andrée Janyk, who passed away from cancer in June. The elected official will serve the remaining one year of the current council term before next year's general election.

You can learn more about the candidates, and view links to their personal pages, at an independent website that was set up recently at www.votinginwhistler.com.

For profiles of the candidates, along with more byelection coverage, visit www.piquenewsmagazine.com/whistler/politics/Category?oid=2125922.

Advance voting takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Whistler Conference Centre and Saturday, Oct. 21 at Municipal Hall. Voting runs both days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

General Voting Day will open on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., also at the Whistler Conference Centre.

Mail-in ballots are available for those with physical disabilities, injuries or illnesses, as well as for those expecting to be absent on all other voting days. To vote by mail, you must submit an application requesting a mail ballot package by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26.
