With only 30 days to go until the 2010 Winter Games, the future is looking positive for defending Olympic moguls champion Jennifer Heil.

With only 30 days to go until the 2010 Winter Games, the future is looking positive for defending Olympic moguls champion Jennifer Heil.

The 26-year-old mogul skier dominated the World Cup course in Calgary, Alberta last week, outdoing fellow teammate and Pemberton resident Kristi Richards, to bring home two gold medals and secure the top position in this year's World Cup standings.

She began the weekend with a first place finish on Friday, Jan. 8, scoring 23.95 points. She repeated her performance the following day with a total of 24.96 points in an event where four other competitors crashed just trying to maneuver the tricky mogul course.

Last week's wins brings Heil's statistics up to 23 World Cup gold medals, and signifies the 43 rd time she has stood on a World Cup podium over the span of her freestyle skiing career. She took the bronze medal at the World Cup opener in Sumou, Finland last month.

The next month should bring more news from the freestyle skiier.

Heil has been pre-selected for Canada's Olympic team. The Olympic mogul event takes place Saturday, Feb. 13 on Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, Heil was the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal in moguls.

The rest of the freestyle skier team will be announced on Jan. 25.

Heil, originally from Spruce Grove, Alberta, currently lives in Montreal and has been on the national team for 10-years.
