Helping Hands for Indonesia

14 artists, proceeds go to UNICEF

Fourteen recording artists will join voices at the Helping Hands: West Coast Artists for UNICEF concert Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. at MY Millennium Place. The concert is a fundraiser for victims of the South East Asia tsunamis.

When the first devastating tsunami struck in 2003, Monique and Michael Creber recorded the Helping Hands album, donating proceeds to UNICEF for relief efforts.

A live concert was never mounted until now – a timely one with a 7.1 earthquake hitting Java last month, crashing yet another tsunami on the area and leaving hundreds dead and more than 1,400 people displaced.

The evening concert includes jazz chanteuse Lee Aaron, folk rambler Jim Byrnes, gospel bluesman Marcus Mosely, Indo-popstar Jasmine Bharucha, Montreal tenor Nathen Aswell, Juno-Award-winner Shari Ulrich, family entertainer Norman Foote, musical comedian Edith Wallace, blues rocker Glenda Rae, award-winning singer/songwriter Rae Armour, silverscreen singer Beverley Elliott and Eupohrics alto Joani Bye. Michael and Monique Creber, who produced the Helping Hands album, will perform as well, including Michael’s Helping Hands group recording with all musicians’ in attendance.

The concert will be followed by a dinner with artists in attendance at 9:30 p.m. at the Bearfoot Bistro.

Advanced $50 show tickets are available by calling MY Place at 604-935-8410 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com. The dinner-concert ticket is $110.
