Austria’s Hermann "The Hermanator" Maier won the latest round of his battle with Norweigan Lasse Kjus in the Dec. 2 Downhill at Beaver Creek, Colorado. Austria’s Stephan Eberharter finished third.

Darin McBeath of Calgary was the top Canadian in the contest finishing 15th. Chad Fleischer of the U.S. was the top North American skier, finishing 13 th .

"I took a ‘nothing to lose’ attitude and went for it today," said McBeath. "I love this course and I’ve always had a good mind set for it.

"The snow is a little bit grippier than I like it. I like when it is really hard and bumpy. But it’s fun and it’s fast. The jumps are huge. It’s much better to ski in the air than on the flats. If the jumps are safe, I like them big."

Maier and McBeath were only separated by 1.6 seconds.

Jeff Durand narrowly missed a berth in the top 30 and badly needed FIS points with a 32 nd place finish. David Anderson and Ed Podivinsky had disappointing runs, finishing 54 th and 55th. Luke Sauder and Chad Mullen did not finish.
