The North Shore teens who used a fence to catch an eight-year-old boy dangling from a Grouse Mountain chairlift were honoured by District of North Vancouver council Monday.

A commendation for exemplary service was bestowed on Joshua Ravensbergen, Gabriel Neilson, Ethan Harvey, James MacDonald, Sam North, Danielle McKinney and Peter Pian.

Mayor Mike Little presented Civic Recognition Awards to the teens and Pian.

The teens were skiing down the Cut when they spied a boy hanging from the Screaming Eagle chairlift and heard his father yelling for help.

The teens grabbed an orange safety fence they used as a makeshift life net. With help from other skiers who pulled the fence tight, the boy landed in the net with no injuries.

Neilson, 13, said he was a little wary about the word "hero."

"I guess we did save him but I think heroes is maybe a bit much. I think we did our part."
