Higgins on top of Kelowna tri 

Olympic distance triathalon attracts 47 participants

Whistler’s David Higgins continues to have a stellar season on the provincial triathlon circuit, finishing sixth overall in the Kelowna Apple Triathlon this past Sunday and first out of 47 athletes in the men’s 35 to 39 age category.

His result was almost identical to July’s Squamish Triathlon, where Higgins was also sixth overall and first in his division.

The race was Olympic distance, with a 1,500 metre swim, a 40 km bike and a 10 km run.

Higgins was 10 th out of the water in 20 minutes, 33 seconds, then 20 th on the bike in 1:06:36. His best leg was the run where he had the fifth fastest time.

With transitions his total time was 2:06:47, just three minutes and seven seconds back of first overall in the age groups.

Bob Deeks also had a good race, placing 42 nd overall and fourth in the men’s 45 to 49 age group with a time of 2:19:00.

Nils Robinson was just six spots back in 48 th overall, and was ninth in the men’s 30 to 34 category in 2:19:55.

Megan Rose was ninth overall among close to 200 women, as well as third in the women’s 25 to 29 category in 2:23:58.

Trent Argent was 14 th in the men’s 30 to 34 race in 2:23:58.

Lina Augaitis was not too far back, finishing in 2:26:26 to place fifth in the women’s 25 to 29 group.

Alisa Brownlee was sixth out of 27 racers in the women’s 35 to 39 category in 2:33:55.

Kevin Brownlee was 26 th in the men’s 35 to 39 category in 2:43:40.

In the Kelowna Kids of Steel triathlon the previous day, Pemberton’s Kai Riess placed 13 th in the boys’ 12-13 category.
