Directory of high-tech companies to be published A corridor directory of high-tech companies will be one of the most tangible results of the Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission's recent technology forum, but just bringing local high-tech companies together will benefit the corridor. "The raw enthusiasm in the room was amazing," says Economic Development Officer Robert Fine. "There were a lot of strangers, people who didn't know each other, but it was interesting to see the way they came together and who talked to who." Twenty-two people from throughout the corridor participated in the conference June 17 in Squamish. Several more companies who couldn't attend have called Fine to make sure they are included in the directory, which will be published later this summer. The directory will be circulated in the Lower Mainland and be available on the Economic Development Commission's World Wide Web site. Fine says the participants thought the forum was an excellent first step, but nearly all emphasized that there must be some follow up. The group wants to meet again and look at a business/marketing plan for a high-tech "incubator," an area of low-cost office and lab space for new high-tech companies. The incubator might also include some high-tech training facilities. High-tech companies that want to be included in the directory can e-mail Fine at rfine@mountain-inter.net or call the Economic Development Commission at 892-5467.
