Ross Walker is hoping to get good news from the province next week on his proposal for a concrete barrier stretching the length of the Sea to Sky Highway.
Earlier this year Walker, a retired highway consultant, met with members of the $600 million Highway Improvement Project to lobby for a concrete median barrier. He had Whistler council’s support in this effort.
The province agreed to allow Walker to see the detailed plans for the highway, which include a barrier in the four-lane sections of road. However, no concrete barrier is planned for the two- and three-lane sections.
Walker believes it is possible to extend the barrier the length of the highway, making it safer for drivers on the road without compromising the flow of traffic. He has delivered a report to the province outlining how to do just that.
Once he meets with the highway improvement team and provincial representatives next week he will report back to Whistler council on his progress. Walker is hoping to deliver news by the April 3 council meeting.
