The Whistler Valley Housing Society was expected to put forward a proposal for a $12 million rental project for seasonal employees during a special meeting with council Wednesday night. The meeting, which took place after Pique went to press, was requested by the housing society to clarify its mandate. The housing society has expressed frustration with council over a number of issues, including the "diffused responsibility between the municipality and the WVHS on virtually all housing related issues" and the previous council’s decision to issue a proposal call for affordable housing projects, rather than deal with proposals as soon as they come forward. The municipality received 12 proposals for a variety of affordable housing projects by the Nov. 15 deadline. No decisions have been made on any of those proposals. It’s not clear how the housing society’s proposal will be dealt with since it was received after the municipality’s Nov. 15 deadline. Mayor Hugh O’Reilly, speaking on Mountain FM’s Mountain Monitor, confirmed Tuesday that the housing society was expected to present the proposal to council.
