The Whistler Mountain Bike Park has decided not to go out with a bang this season, moving the bang up by several weeks with a rescheduled Harvest Huckfest.
In the past the Huckfest would close the park, with events taking place around the official closing day in October. The seventh annual Huckfest will take place Sept. 20-21 to take advantage of warmer weather and better conditions, as both events will require competitors to spend some time on course.
The slopestyle takes place on Saturday, Sept. 20, with check-in from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., training from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and the time trials getting underway at noon. Each rider will get two runs through the course for a combined time, which will be included in the judging. Full-face helmets are mandatory, and inverted tricks are disallowed.
The Gunner Dual Slalom is on Sunday, with a meeting at 10 a.m., training at 10:30 a.m., and the ladders getting underway at 11:45 a.m. on the Double Vision course. The format is the same as for Crankworx, with riders making one run on each side of the course, and the rider with the lowest combined time advancing to the next round. The most the slower rider can be behind on the second run is 1.5 seconds.
Full-face helmets are mandatory once again.
The cost of registration is $40 per day for both events, and lift tickets for competitors are just $5.
The dual slalom offers a “grom” category for kids aged 13 to 15, as well as junior 16-18, junior women, and men’s and women’s open and masters categories. The slopestyle is open to groms, junior male, and open male and female riders.
