Alpine Canada Alpin got an early season shot in the arm as a result of new partnerships with Husky Energy Inc. and the Canadian Olympic Develop Agency, ACA president Ken Read announced Nov. 7.

Husky Energy Inc. signed a three-year agreement with the ACA that will support all levels of the sport, starting with children.

Husky Energy announced the Husky Snow Stars, a national program that was designed to teach a consistent set of ski skills in a fun and friendly way, aimed at kids aged 6 to 10. The program offers coaching aids, a parents handbook, a skills report card, and items like posters, stickers, collector cards, and a child-friendly teaching video.

Another Husky initiative is a customer swipe-card loyalty program whereby two per cent of gasoline purchases at Husky/Mohawk retailers will be invested in youth ski racing in Canada.

They will also sell souvenir JoToGo thermal collector cups featuring CAST members Allison Forsyth, Kelly VanderBeek, Jean-Philippe Roy and Thomas Grandi. Proceeds from the cups will go to support CAST.

CODA recently filed an $87 million proposal to the Government of Canada to develop a Centre for Canadian Olympic Excellence in the Calgary area for summer and winter athletes.

"Alpine Canada’s job is to provide the human, technical and financial resources necessary to create champions," said Read. "These new alliances can help take us to that goal – whether it’s developing ski sills in children or securing the best opportunities to train our Olympic athletes."

CODA is also supportive of an ACA bid to develop a year-round glacier training centre in Canada for Canada’s winter athletes.
