Whistler has put out the call for a development manager to oversee the multi-million dollar Paralympic sledge hockey arena.

This week ads for the position ran in the Vancouver Sun and a number of electronic trade publications. The ads called for a development manager to lead a team that would deliver the Paralympic ice facility "the nature of which will evolve from a thorough development process including community and stakeholder consultation."

"The idea is that the development manager put together space programming and financial modeling with options on how it would be financed, working with the community," explained Councillor Marianne Wade. "Then the community would have options on what the implication of the design is."

Whistler could still decide not to build the arena. If the municipality cannot build it without borrowing millions of dollars, it will go to a referendum for the community to decide.

Wade said she was pleased to see the ads go out. It’s a difficult time to find qualified candidates for the position because of the construction boom across the province and in other places in Canada she added.

The RMOW is asking for applicants to submit their applications by Nov. 25.
