Cinderella at MY Place

WHAT: Cinderella

WHERE: Millennium Place

WHEN: Nov. 16-17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 12:30 p.m.

Stage right, coach left, glass slipper: the Whistler Players are into the swing of their first production at MY Place Theatre, a performance of the Cinderella Pantomime.

Local Whistler references – and actors – are all a piece of the pumpkin pie that includes cross-dressing princes, creative set design, and of course, laughter.

From the hot pinks and gaudy purples of the stepsisters garb to the rouged-up cheeks of male playing female, audiences are in for a smirk. Brechtian mode has actors addressing the audience about their woes, including "why can’t I find love" and the always popular, "what should I wear tonight?"

The British farce-pantomime has been in production since last August, with rehearsals wrapping Tuesday in preparation for the play’s debut Thursday, Nov. 15. Additional performances are tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee performance is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Glass pumps might be out of place on the Village Stroll, but on stage the shoes help complete Cinder’s real dream: to find Prince Charming.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $13 for children and seniors, through Ticketmaster or at Millennium Place box office. For information call 604-935-8410.
