Finn Iles continued his superb 2017 season with another win and his second consecutive junior downhill world championship.

It may have been a little closer than usual, but the 17-year-old beat Great Britain's Joe Breeden by over a second at the UCI DH World Cup race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, on July 8. France's Sylvain Cougoureux was third, about four seconds back.

The win ensured Iles would take home the overall title at season's end.

"I can't express how happy I am to have taken the win here in Lenzerheide!" Iles posted to Instagram after the win.

Whistlerite helps BC Junior Canucks to second place

Whistler's Tommy Lafreniere stood tall in Edmonton.

Lacing up for the BC Junior Canucks at the legendary The Brick Invitational Hockey Super Novice Tournament, Lafreniere tallied two goals and two assists. The squad won its division with a pristine 6-0-0 record, advanced to the final with a 1-0 win over Toronto Pro Hockey, but dropped a 6-5 decision to the Toronto Bulldogs in the championship game.

Lafreniere started hot, with the Jr. Canucks' first goal of the tournament before adding two assists in an 8-0 win over Team California. He also scored a goal in a 3-2 win over Team Manitoba. BC continued the round-robin with a 1-0 win over Toronto Pro Hockey, a 5-2 win over the Montreal Ice Storm, a 5-2 win over Team Brick Alberta and a 5-0 blanking of the Detroit Jr. Red Wings to advance to the playoff round.

Whistler golf teams strong in Oliver

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Course pair of Padraic O'Rourke and Jordan Rourke saved their best for last.

At the G&G Golf Company & Callaway Golf PGA of BC Pro-Assistant Championship at Fairview Mountain Golf Club in Oliver on July 10 and 11, the pair posted a combined 13-under-par to finish tied for fifth overall. An underwhelming one-under set the pairing to the back of the pack after best-ball play on the first day of the tournament, but they put together an impressive second day in scramble play with a tournament-best 12-under.

Nicklaus North's Andrew Smart and Trevor Marko also golfed well, taking ninth with a combined 10-under.

The hosts Brian McDonald and Rob Tadey dominated, putting up 11-under scores on both days to beat the Two Eagles Golf Course & Academy team of Dean Claggett and Ethan Danish by four strokes.
