Whistler’s own Blake Jorgenson, a 2001 showdown winner, is back as one of five finalists chosen from more than 60 international entries to compete for Pro Photograher Showdown’s Best of Show bragging rights and a $10,000 cash purse Wednesday, April 19 at the Telus Conference Centre.

"I am going for an adventure theme that documents all of my greatest moments (throughout my entire career) while showcasing the mountain lifestyle Whistler and all the exciting things to do here have given me," said Jorgenson, a senior photographer for Powder, Skier and Freeskier magazines, after returning from a heli-skiing shoot in Terrace, B.C.

"The Showdown is the best way that I have seen for a photographer to express themselves because it is one of the only times they get to choose the photos they want to show. Usually, it’s somebody else (choosing). Plus showing them in a dramatic presentation in front of 2,000 people is tough to beat."

The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival’s oldest and most heralded event showcases five world-class photographers exhibiting five-minute digital shows choreographed to music.

From surfing waves off North America’s West Coast to scouring cliff faces in Mexico, the action-sports showcase adventures the gamut of adrenaline-fed activity.

Other top photogs to look out for include Scott Pommier, former Transworld Snowboarding and SBC Skateboard magazine editor; Kevin Zacher, senior photographer for Transworld Snowboarding and Burton Snowboards; Jeremy Koreski, shutterbug for Outside, Surfer, enRoute and Explore Magazine; and Core Rich, whose works are found in Sports Illustrated, Outside, Men’s Journal and National Geographic Adventure.

This festival favourite always sells out. Tickets are $20. Visit www.whistler2006.com.
