Imagination 2003, the Black Tie and Blue Jean Gala held on Saturday April 12, raised over $58,000 for the Whistler Public Library and the Whistler Museum and Archives Society. The committee chair, Marlene Baldwin, would like to thank her committee, all the generous sponsors and the community for their contributions to this very successful fundraiser.

Canada Book Week April 21-27, 2003
Canada Book Week is a celebration of Canadian authors and books, organized by the Writers’ Trust of Canada and lasts an entire week. What started out as Canada Book Day (held annually on World Book Day, April 23) has expanded to a full week due to the success of the event.
The theme for 2003 is "Literary Landscapes and Literary Sites" and focuses on the importance unique places have played in the growth of Canadian literature. The Trust commissioned authors William Bell, George Elliot Clarke, Hiromi Goto, Sheila Heti, Jean Little, Janet Lunn, Kevin Major, Leon Rooke, and Paul Yee to write about some of the particular places that have inspired them.
Their pieces will appear in the 2003 booklets, which are distributed free of cost to all elementary schools, secondary schools, and public libraries throughout Canada. Also included is the wonderful Canada Book Week poem by Bill Richardson.
One of the events during Canada Book Week is the second season of CBC Canada Reads. CBC Canada Reads offers five very different books this year: The Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston was selected by Justin Trudeau; Life of Pi by Yann Martel was recommended by Nancy Lee (who recently read from her works at the Celebration 2010 event organized by the Whistler Writers Group); The Lost Garden by Helen Humphreys was recommended by Mag Ruffman; Next Episode by Hubert Aquin was selected by Denise Bombardier; Sarah Binks by Paul Hiebert was recommended by Will Ferguson. All titles are available at the Whistler Public Library.
If you are an avid CBC radio listener you can cast your vote online for the People’s Choice award. Just go to http://www.cbc.ca/canadareads/vote.html and pick your favourite. The Peoples' Choice polling booth will close at midnight on May 15 th and the winner will be announced on Richardson’s Roundup on May 19 th .

Spring Swing Fling: There are still some tickets left for this great event on Friday, April 18 from 8 till midnight at Nicklaus North Clubhouse. Dance the night away with the Malvern Swing Band and Jazz Choir. $35 includes appetizers.
Hoppy Easter: Easter workshop on Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 at the library. There will be Easter stories, songs, rhymes and a craft. For children ages 3-6. Pre-registration is necessary due to limited space. Call 604-932-5564.
Leap in to Learn: A unique workshop which brings movement into learning. Join respected educator and trainer, Mary-Elizabeth Manley of York University, as she demonstrates how to incorporate creative movement into literacy and learning approaches. Thursday, May 8. More information to follow.
