Best rap Juno nominee in town this weekend

Despite the obscurity his name implies, DJ Incognito keeps his name in the hip hop spotlight with Juno Award nominations to his credit and a new album set for release later this summer.

Check out hit singles Live in My Element and The Masses from his new CD Organic Music For A Digital World at his show Sunday, Aug. 6 at Garfinkel’s.

Incognito first scratched the hip-hop scene with his debut album A Sample and a Drum Machine , digging deep into the crates of old school hip hop. He continued to build on the album, releasing his sophomore album Life’s a Collection of Experiences , which received a 2005 Juno Nomination for Best Rap Recording.

His music graced showcases such as NXNE and the Toronto Urban Music Festival as well as opening for major touring hip hop acts. His work has also been featured on several seminal Canadian hip-hop tracks.

In addition to home turf performances, Incognito has traveled overseas to the United Kingdom and Asia.

He is also founder of the independent music label Nine Planets Hip Hop.

Local favourites Animal Nation, runners up in the 2006 Whistler Battle of the Bands, will warm up the crowds. There will also be music from The Gumshoe Strut.

Advanced $8 tickets are available at Electric Daisy and The Circle.
