5,000 media and 4,000 pancakes

This week the Resort Municipality released a list of preliminary numbers from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, compiled after reviewing the Games with partners in the resort. The RMOW Games Office will present the final report to council in June.

Olympics - February 12 to 28

• 12,000 Olympic Family members in Whistler

• 102 medals awarded in Whistler

• 51,000 average daily overnight in-resort population

• 97 per cent occupancy rate during the Olympic Winter Games (source: Tourism Whistler)

• 1.5 million B.C. Transit users in the month of February

• 49,164 visits to Whistler Canada Olympic House

• 4,000 pancakes consumed at Whistler Canada Olympic House during community events

• 32 events hosted at the Whistler Canada Olympic House

• 5,000 members of the media in Whistler

• 220,000 articles and media stories in which Whistler was mentioned in the first 12 weeks of 2010 (source: Tourism Whistler)

• 3.5 billion worldwide television viewers estimated to have tuned into Olympic Games rights holding broadcasters

• 47 per cent more global television coverage of the 2010 Winter Games than for the previous Winter Games

• 72 Whistler Live! bands performed on the Village Square stage

• 400-plus Whistler Live! Performances and exhibitions throughout the village

• 60 artists featured in the Whistler Live! ArtWalk

• 27 skiers and snowboard riders flew through three rings of fire in the Fire & Ice Remix

• 6,000 plastic bottles diverted by choosing reusable stainless steel Whistler Live! water bottles

• 3,625 people became Fans of Whistler Live! on Facebook

• 74 international media interviews given by Mayor Ken Melamed

• 15 headline acts featured in Whistler Medals Plaza

• 80 centimetres or 41 inches of snow fell on the mountains the first few days of the Olympic Winter Games and Whistler Blackcomb reported a higher than expected number of visits (source: Whistler Blackcomb)

• 4,304 visits to Whistler Canada Paralympic House

• 800 members of the media in Whistler

• One million-plus visits to Jan. 1 to March 26

• Six headline acts featured in Whistler Medals Plaza

• 275 million visitors in total to, shattering the previous record of 105 million set during the Beijing 2008 Games

• 27 days and nights and more than 370 hours of scheduled programming for Whistler Live!
