Intrawest enticing Colorado skiers north

Rocky Mountain passes include Whistler-Blackcomb component

Enticing American visitors to Whistler this winter is going to be a challenge but Intrawest is making an effort by adding a Whistler-Blackcomb package to two of the passes the company offers at its Colorado resorts.

Intrawest announced Oct. 3 that two passes good at the company’s Copper Mountain, Steamboat and Winter Park resorts will also include two days of skiing at Whistler-Blackcomb and 20 per cent off lodging and airfare from Denver. Airfare starts at $149 per person, one way, and additional Whistler-Blackcomb lift tickets will be available for purchase at 50 per cent off the window rate.

“With this limited time offer, skiers and boarders from the Front Range can spend the season exploring the real Colorado winter experience at Copper, Steamboat and Winter Park andwhen they're ready, we'll provide a free two-day lift ticket and the bestpossible deals available on lodging and airfare so they can experienceeverything that Whistler-Blackcomb has to offer,” Intrawest’s chief marketing officer, Andy Wirth, said in a release.

Skiers and boarders who purchased Intrawest’s Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus ($439 for an adult) or Rocky Mountain Ultimate Pass ($1,404 for an adult) by Oct. 12 will receive the Whistler-Blackcomb package.

Tourism Whistler recently suggested that U.S. visits could be down another 15 per cent this winter, on top of a 15 per cent decline in U.S. visitors last winter.

Whistler-Blackcomb is promoting the new Peak 2 Peak gondola and the opportunity to ski the 2010 Olympic runs as part of the Colorado promotion.
