The Pemberton RCMP received a report of an impaired driver north of Mount Currie on the afternoon of Feb 15. Witnesses reported that beer bottles were being thrown out of the moving vehicle.
An on-duty officer located the car along with four people inside. During the investigation, the officer noted that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and issued a 24-hour driver’s licence prohibition.
The officer placed the female passenger under investigation for drug possession at the scene. The officer discovered numerous small bags of marijuana, a small amount of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
The woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purposes of trafficking. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Apr. 6, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. in Pemberton Provincial Court.
Indecent acts investigated
On Feb. 16, Pemberton RCMP investigated an incident in Birken where an adult male had allegedly committed an indecent act. The man, who is known to police, was arrested and later released with strict conditions. His first court appearance is scheduled for Apr. 6, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. in Pemberton Provincial Court. His name cannot be released until formal charges have been laid.
Another investigation into a male alleged to commit indecent acts while picking up hitchhikers in the Pemberton-Mount Currie is also continuing. The most recent incident involving a "grey- or white-haired man, in a silver or grey SUV." occurred approximately two weeks ago. Other incidents, featuring a man fitting that description have occurred as far back as last September. Police are following up a number of leads the investigation has uncovered and an arrest is expected.
Sucide stand off ends peacefully
Pemberton RCMP called in the Emergency Response Team(ERT) on Sunday, Feb. 19 to prevent a potential suicide. An on-duty officer was making a patrol north of Mount Currie when he established contact with a lone male in a vehicle. The driver told the officer he had a gun and wanted to kill himself. The officer took cover and called for immediate back up.
The on-duty officer received backup from Whistler RCMP officers and Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police who were later joined by the ERT Team, a negotiator and a police dog. After a five-hour stand off, the male was taken into custody without incident.
The man was later transferred to a medical clinic for assessment. No weapons were located inside the vehicle.
The investigation is continuing.
