Irving directing Whistler Singers

The Whistler Singers are now following the beat of a new choir director.

The Whistler Singers are now following the beat of a new choir director.

Glen Irving will be directing the local community choir and will be combining his experience as a professional pianist and as a director of instrumental and choral groups to guide the sounds of the Singers.

Irving recently moved to Whistler after teaching music at the Yokonama International School in Japan.

One of his goals as choir director of the Singers is to get more people to join their ranks. No experience is necessary to be a part of the group and everyone is welcome – long-time locals or those just breezing through town for a few months.

For the past three years the Whistler Singers were led by Colleen Coop, who built up a core group of regulars.

In the past, the Singers were seen around town performing at the Westin and Delta Hotels and well as carolling at last year's Winter Start Festival.

Under Irving, the Singers will also be carolling at Christmas as well as working towards a major spring concert. He is also hoping the choir can produce their own CD next year.

"I see the Whistler Singers as an important focal point for the cultural and musical development of the community," said Irving is a press release.
