Whistler RCMP and Whistler Search and Rescue received a call from Blackcomb Ski Patrol at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, March 27. A 31-year-old male tourist was reported separated from his companion in an area near Coronoa Bowl, which is just outside the Blackcomb ski area boundary.

Attempts were made to locate the missing man on Thursday evening, using snowmobiles, but were unsuccessful.

Helicopters were added to the search Friday morning. After the missing man’s companion helped narrow the search area the body was spotted below a cliff.

RCMP report the man was deceased when rescuers arrived on scene. All evidence suggested that the man had fallen off the cliff by accident.

The body of the male was recovered with the assistance of the Blackcomb Ski Patrol and was transported to Vancouver General Hospital where an autopsy was performed.
