Jan Jansen promoted to senior management position

The resort municipality will be heading into the New Year having filled two senior manager positions at the hall.

In early December Administrator Bill Barratt announced to staff that he had promoted Jan Jansen to the position of general manager of resort experience. Jansen will be filling the gap left by Keith Bennett who is now president and chief executive officer of the Whistler 2010 Sport Legacies (WSL2010), which will own and manage the 2010 venues after the Games.

"We are excited for Jan and look forward to his participation with the senior leadership team," wrote Barratt in his announcement to staff.

Barratt has also recently hired a new general manager of environmental services to fill the gap left by Brian Barnett, who left the hall earlier this year. The new general manager will be relocating from Eastern Canada and an announcement will be made in January.

Jansen was not available for comment this week.

He has been seconded from the municipality for work on the 2010 Games for several years now. He worked with the 2010 Bid Corp. and was later hired by Olympic organizers to oversee the development of the $100 million Whistler Sliding Centre.

With the centre now complete, Jansen is working on Whistler's 2010 transportation plan.

He will take over from Bennett at the end of March 2010, at which time Bennett will move to work full time for the WSL2010.
