Janyk podiums for development team

There could be two Janyks on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team next year.

In a FIS super G in Innerkrems, Austria, on Jan. 21, Michael Janyk, the younger brother of national team skier Britt Janyk, won a bronze medal against some of the top European prospects.

His time of one minute 18.20 seconds was just 0.15 seconds off the winning time posted by Austrian Manfred Gruber. He was also 0.07 seconds back of winning the silver medal, which went to Gregor Sparovec of Slovenia.

Another Whistler skier, Benjamin Thornhill, finished in 20 th position for Canada.

In the super-G on the following day, Ottawa’s Ryan Semple tied for seventh to lead the Canadian team.
