Despite mainly sunshine and warm temperatures the two Meet Your Maker (MYM) winners destroyed the times set in the first edition of the race last year.

Jakub Sumbera and Nadyia Fry, both of Invermere, finished the 50-mile course in times that were almost an hour faster than the times recorded in 2012 by Mike Murphy and Kathy McKay.

Sumbera ran the trails in seven hours, 38 minutes and 19 seconds. Murphy covered the distance last year in 8:31:10.

Fry took 9 hours and 38 seconds while McKay’s time last year was 9:52:26.

Sumbera said Comfortably Numb was his favourite section of the course.

“The single-track there is nice – technical – lots of rocks, lots of jumping, lots of turns,” said Sumbera. “It’s kind of nice.”

He added that the toughest section for him was the Flank in the Function Junction area.

“I just walked the whole thing and I was feeling very bad and was starting to feel hungry,” said Sumbera.

Originally from the Czech Republic, Sumbera said after the race that MYM was his first 50-mile race. He's no stranger to smashing records in his first attempt at an event. Sumbera took top spot in the 2011 Heart of the Rockies Triathlon, his frist Olympic distance triathlon. In taking the top spot he also set a new course record in that event held every year in Invermere.

The second place male finisher was Adam Campbell in a time of 7:46:07 and Aaron Heidt followed him in third with a time of 8:28:15. American Jorge Maravilla was fourth and Squamish runner Jason Loutitt came in fifth a few minutes after Marvilla.

Fry was sixth overall more than 50 minutes ahead of Darbykai Standrick. The second place female clocked a time of 9:52:10. Standrick was tenth overall.

The fastest relay team was a sponsor team called Salomon Flight Crew #1. The mixed team covered the course in 7:57:49. The next fastest team was another mixed team called Running Wild and they finished the course in 8:21:43.
