There was no music in the streets of Whistler last weekend due to the tragic events of Sept. 11. The backlog of air traffic forced the cancellation of the villages 11 th annual Jazz and Blues Festival.
"The headline entertainment was coming in from Halifax and was unable to get a flight here. It was with our best judgment, although we were extremely disappointed, that we decided to cancel," says Barrett Fisher, Vice President of Marketing Strategy and Business Development for Tourism Whistler.
Full refunds for the scheduled Saturday night performance of Bullfrog and Metalwood were automatically provided last Friday to customers who had purchased by credit card. Anyone who had used cash or debit should return to the Whistler Activity Centre with their tickets. Guests who purchased festival accommodation packages will also be issued 100 per cent refunds for the weekend.
"Tourism Whistlers central reservations department is working very closely with all the hotels and what we found is every single one of them is being extremely co-operative and understanding," says Fisher.
Due to the hectic schedules of the performers, Whistlers Jazz and Blues Festival could not be rescheduled for later this fall, but Tourism Whistler says the event will return next year.
