Jazzed up Africas

Tommy Africa's, Sunday

DJ John Howard brings his loose and groovy mixes with jazzy percussion and plenty of San Francisco signature beats to Soul Kitchen at Tommy Africa’s on Sunday, Oct. 22.

The San Francisco native began with residencies at Groove Kitchen and Boogie Buffet that later grew to shows with Stompy Stomp, Together with Dubtribe and Spundae.

The current New Yorker now calls Shelter for OM his new home.

While producing and collaborating on various projects, Howard has toured all over the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Russia and Europe. His house music is part of the second installment of the SF series from OM Records. He also signed an original track, Buddha Cowboy, to OM for the label’s 100 th album release.

Howard’s style fuses funk with the reckless track selection of Chicago and solid and smooth mixing of San Francisco. Jazz from the late ’70s and early ’80s also works its way into Howard’s sets.

Tickets are $5. Doors 10 p.m.
