Jen Segger first in Scorched Sole

Squamish runner wins race in 30C weather

One week after spraining her ankle in the Ultra XC in Quebec, Squamish's Jen Segger was back in action at the Scorched Sole 50 km in Kelowna this past weekend.

With temperatures around 30 C, Segger finished the race second overall and first among women. She was actually first overall, men and women, but fell behind when she decided to go for an optional checkpoint that the other runners missed.

"Either way, it was a super hard course, very technical as we bashed through hours of overgrowth," she said.

She finished in seven hours, 2 minutes and two seconds, just over six minutes back of first overall in that category.

She chose this run over Comfortably Numb to prepare for the upcoming Sinister 7 Ultra, a two-day and 148 km Ultra run in Crows Nest Pass on July 9 and 10. After that, she's doing the Ultraman Canada triathlon - a three-day race with a 10 km swim, 275 km bike and 83 km run.
