Joint recreation forum December 1

Mount Currie and Pemberton residents invited

Residents of Pemberton and Mount Currie will get a chance to voice their opinions about joint recreation ventures at the Pemberton/Mount Currie Community to Community Forum.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Xit’olacw Community School cafeteria. Topics addressed will be the Mount Currie community survey on recreation interests, the Village of Pemberton/Electoral Area C recreation survey and what a design build concept would entail. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.

The forum builds on a motion made last June at the first Mount Currie Band/Village of Pemberton joint council meeting committing both communities to investigate the possibility of undertaking recreation facility expansion together.

"In the past it’s only been the individual council’s meeting and it’s not been open to the public," said organizer Harriet Van Wart.

The decision to focus this particular forum on recreation was a result of the recent referendum concerning the proposed new Pemberton community centre.

"Recreation is a hot issue right now. We thought it would be a great opportunity to get community input and explore the idea of creating something together."

The forums, which are funded through the Union of B.C. Municipalities, the VOP and MCB, have taken place over the last five years.

The Xit’olacw Community School is located at the Mount Currie new site, and is accessible by taking the Lillooet turn off at Mount Currie and proceeding until signage indicates a left turning lane. Proceed up the hill and follow the signs to school.
