Julia Murray claims bronze medal in ski cross

Whistler's Julia Murray won the bronze medal in a World Cup ski cross event in Oberndorf, Austria Tuesday. Murray finished just behind two French skiers, Ophelie David, who earned her 21 st career win, and Meryll Boulangeat.

Ashleigh McIvor, the reigning skicross word champion, finished 12 th , while teammate Danielle Poleschuk of Calgary was 11 th . Whistler's McIvor is third in the overall ski cross standings with 147 points. Murray is fourth with 123 points. David leads with 240 points, followed by Sweden's Anna Holmlund with 200.

On the men's side, David Duncan of Golden, B.C. mirrored Murray's bronze medal. Simon Stickl of Germany won the men's event. American Daron Rahlves was second.

Christopher Delbosco of Sudbury, Ont., was 10th.

Switzerland's Michael Schmid, who won the first two ski cross events in Italy last month, was fourth at Oberndorf. Schmid leads the overall standings with 250 points.

The next World Cup ski cross will be at Les Contamines, France on Saturday.
