Junior golf tour returns at Pemberton

After a brief hiatus, junior golfers from the area were back at in on Aug. 13 for the fifth stop on the Sea to Sky Junior Tour at Pemberton Valley. Bryon Thom of Squamish, 17, posted the lowest score of the day, a two-under par 70.

Ashley Hogg, also 17 and also of Squamish, was second on the leader board with a score of 75. She also won the closest to the pin award on the 17 th hole, and made the longest drive on the 18 th .

Gordan Yakura of Vancouver, just 15, was third overall with a 78. Jordan Stuart was second in the age group with a respectable 96.

Fraser McGlenen, only 14 years old, edged out Jordan Koren in his age category by one stroke, with scores of 80 and 81 respectively. Darren Bencharski shot a 94 to finish third in his age group and 12 th overall.

Ben Heaps of Whistler finished sixth overall and followed Thom in the 17 year old group with a score of 83, aided on the way by winning the longest drive.

Shawn Crichton, 18, of Whistler finished seventh overall with an 86. Ryan Worrod was next in his age group, finishing 11 th overall with a 93.

Mike Heenan, 16, was eighth overall and first in his age group with an 87.

In ninth place, amazingly, was 13 year old Jason McLean, scoring a natural 88. Glenn Tundle, 13, finished second in the age group and 19 th overall with a 112.

Stefano Sedonio, 12 years old, was next in line in 10 th place with a 92. Four other 12 year olds finished in the top 20 – Chris Harper with a 96 finished 14th, David Rose scored a 98 to finish 15 th , Mike Rose shot a 102 to finish 16 th , and Robbie Laird won the closest to the pin to score 110 and finish in 18th.

Nadine Sykora, 13 years old and 13 th overall, followed Hogg in the women’s standings with a 95. Stephanie Sellers of Squamish was 17 th after finishing with a 104. Katrina Novak, 11, finished 20 th with a 113.
