Local John Chan emerged victorious in a Tennis B.C. champs tournament held at the Whistler Racquet Club this past weekend.

Previously this year Chan won the Whistler Spring Challenger and made the semi-finals at a Tennis B.C. event held at Stanley Park.

The doubles event was cancelled because of rain, but all of the junior singles events took place on Sunday.

In the Boys 16 final, Chan won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 5-7, and then traded sets against Hector Cameron in the tie-breaker to win 13-11. Some of the top-ranked juniors in the province took part.

Also from Whistler, Josh MacNeil, Chris Munro, Emina Ida and Maggie Tong won their first round matches but were kept off the podium. Other players in the tournament were Keegan Blunden, Shane Black, Kelsey Schacter, Molly Green, Chelsea Langemen, and Harnoor and Manroop Gill.

Almost 100 players took part.
