K1s clean up at Grouse

Whistler Mountain Ski Club pre-teens take lion share of medals

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club’s K1 skiers (aged 11 and 12) headed down the highway this past weekend for a trio of slalom races at Grouse Mountain. The WMSC was solid as always, winning about two-thirds of the medals and over half of the spots in the top-15.

In the first race on Saturday, Whistler’s Kailee Darlington and Rae Swette placed first and second respectively, while Morgan Taylor just missed the bronze medal. Also in the top-15 were Emma King in seventh, Kayla Spark in eighth, and Alexandra Oulette, Desirae Smith, Sophie Cullen, Charley Field and Alexandra Perry in 10 th , 11 th , 12 th , 13 th and 15 th respectively out of 52 racers.

The second run was a replay of the first with Kailee Darlington and Rae Swette in first and second once again, and Morgan Taylor in fourth. Charley Field was fifth, Kayla Spark seventh, Alexandra Oulette eighth, Sofi Leroux 11 th , Desirae Smith 12th, Alexandra Perry 13 th , Sophie Cullen 14 th and Elianne Taillefer 15 th .

In the boy’s race, Kyle Gardiner of the WMSC picked up the bronze medal, followed closely by Matthew Segal. Broderick Thompson was sixth, Alexander Smith eighth, James Pitblado ninth, Brodie Seger 10 th , John McIver 11 th , Connor Dunn 12 th , Blake Ramsden 14 th , and Dylan Gillespie 15 th .

In the final two-run race on Sunday, Kailee Darlington made it a hat trick with her third gold medal, while Morgan Taylor jumped one spot to claim the bronze. Picabo Reeves was fourth, Desirae Smith sixth, Emma King seventh, Alexandra Ouellette eighth, and Kayla Spark, Sofi Leroux, Sophie Cullen, and Shawna Oser were 10th through 13 th .

The boys were held off the podium, with Connor Dunn coming closest in fourth place. James Pitblado, Kyle Yates, Brodie Seger, and Rowdy Reeves were fifth through eighth; Blake Ramsden and John McIver were 10 th and 11 th ; and Bryan Cadman, Matthew Segal and Logan Pehota were 13 th through 15 th .
