The Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) K1 program finally got going this month, earning several podiums and top-15 results in three giant slalom races at Hemlock Mountain on Jan. 18 and 19. K1 is for kids aged 11 and 12.

According to head K1 coach Sead Causevic, the season got off to a slow start because of lack of snow and the competition from the zone wasn’t up to it’s usual standard.

"Nobody really came into this race with a whole lot of training, especially teams from the city mountains, which haven’t had much snow at all," he said.

No single WMSC skier stood out in the effort, said Causevic, as several different skiers took turns being on the podium. Whistler locals Brynne Benbow and Morgan Pridy each landed two podiums, as did teammate Brittany McGovern.

"I think that says a lot for the team, that everyone can step up and perform when necessary," Causevic said.
